Abstract
Covid-19 had infected more than 4.2 million people worldwide by May 2020. During this outbreak, cities with high population density, high spatial density and high frequency of population movement, such as Wuhan, New York, Paris showed their vulnerability and unreadiness in the face of the virus. Thus, how do we plan and design cities to be more liveable and healthier before the next possible virus outbreak that could cause large-scale infection anywhere in the world? Combined with the activity characteristics of high-speed, high-frequency and high-density population mobility in the world, how can intelligent technology improve the resilience of cities in terms of potential threats to urban health and security? How will digital technology transform urban planning and design for liveability, health and safety? The described issues are of great significance for urban development after COVID-19. Therefore, this session will focus on Post COVID-19 Cities: Planning & Design Perspectives for a Liveable and Healthy Urban Environment in the Digital Age. During the session, four experts from China, Belgium and Indonesia will be invited to conduct the presentation around the topic, and an open discussion and interaction part with the audience will be arranged after presentation. Firstly, Dr. Beixiang Shi as host will introduce the session and provide a short introductory speech about the topic, background information related urban issues and session topic. Pr. Junyan Yang (Member of ISOCARP Scientific Committee, Southeast University) will follow with his presentation with on the evolution of digital urban planning and design method towards liveable and healthy urban environment. His presentation will introduce how digital techniques are changing urban planning approaches in China in 2020, and how urban environment will evolve along the emergence of new technological methods. In regard of post-Covid-19 Cities, Pr Junyan Yang will illustrate the impact of smart technologies and digital methods for more liveable cities with both theoretical and practical samples. Mr. Sebastien Goethals (VP of ISOCARP, Citilinks) will present the recent innovative trends and future perspectives of urban mobility services and micromobility in post-Covid-19 cities and how streets and public spaces can be reshaped and redesigned for people and healthier cities by using real-time connectivity and digital integration of all mobility modes and urban services. He will illustrate his research case with practical solutions for multimodal and shared streets capable to respond to potential future challenges and virus outbreaks and physical distancing issues. Mr. Andy Simarmata (Member of ISOCARP Scientific Committee, Indonesian Association of Planners) will present specific issues, trends and solutions for Southern cities in tropical climates when facing virus outbreaks and natural disasters. He will illustrate the case of the megacity of Jakarta. Finally, Dr. Yi Shi (Southeast University) will focus on individual location data, high precision spatial data and people behaviour within urban environments. And, in turn, will the activities of individual behavior and urban elements, such as open space, such as land use function, interconnected to discuss how to minimum granularity from city people's perspective, to urban environment planning and design. In the second part, the audience are invited to join the in-depth discussion around the Post-COVID-19,changes in cities and their response,In the digital era, urban planning and design concepts and methods guided by liveable and Heathy urban environment. The main discussion points include: post-COVID-19, change of traditional city life and urban planning method under digitization process; Liveable and health-oriented urban design and planning methods and smart city systems; And the strategies and ways to enhance the resilience of cities under the pressure of disasters.
