Abstract
The role of creative industries in heritage protection and smart culture can be explained as a paradygm of creative evolution from one side and of pshyhology of creativity itself from the other. Anyway, it existed a long ago before becoming an important tool for management of contemporary society. But, nowadays, in transformed post-pandemic society, with a lack of economic power thus less possibility for consumerism, creative industries and creativity will be perceived as a most needed substitute for lost activities. Under that scope, in this paper it will be examinated creative branches like social circus, engaged performances, social open kitchens, different kinds of methods how to achieve new skills through creativity in order to be adjusted for new era. Atractive industrial heritage on waterfronts, now abandoned, would be a good platform for examining a proposal for general model ready to be used. Creative industries as an economic project lead us to the importance of resources or cultural (industrial) heritage as a key factor of research, separating it from the idea of autonomy. On the other side, cultural heritage is the base of knowledge for the development of a creative society. The aim of the research would be focused to improve the subject area, potential and role of the creative industry in the protection of industrial heritage in the waterfront areas, with an emphasis of theoretical issues and the introduction of new discurs in contemporary practice. Previous research on industrial heritage, which is reduced to historiography and values, would be directly towards on research of industrial heritage from the point of its creative potentials. One of the methods in the process of reviving the abandoned industrial heritage, that will be analyzed in this paper, is the so-called method – adaptive reuse. In post-socialist transition, the development of major cities in the former Yugoslavia has had a negative effect on the industrial heritage built in the early 20th century. In order to prevent this tendency it is necessary to redefine the approach to the revival for a whole regional network of cities. When in action, these spaces could be transformed into vibrant and attractive ones, places for new creative contents - local innovative economy and secure sustainability. One of the aims is the producing new awareness of industrial heritage spaces, exploring possibilities of protection, rehabilitation and envisioning sustainable strategies for development of former industrial areas and buildings, to produce some guidelines. The focus is not only on their physical protection but also on the broader issues related to the contemporary reuse as places with cultural and tourism potentials. In that sense, the answers to the problems and potentials of the industrial heritage will be searched in the concept of the creative industry, that will be examined through a case study - thermal power plant Power and Light in Belgrade.
