Abstract
Planning about the nightly environment of cities is one of the important issues which consists of lighting design as a considerable part of that. Lighting design of buildings and urban elements is usually accomplished with the aim of drawing attention during the nights, so these buildings in the urban context which include public and necessary lightings make the urban landscape. Apart from drawing attention approaches in lighting design, in this paper, we try to use attention restoration theory (ART) to follow another approach on the way of people's mental health and creating a healthy urban landscape and environment. In psychology, attention restoration theory implies that environmental factors can be effective in drawing conscious attention that leads tom to improve concentration and reducing stress for people. The fundamental question is: According to appropriate planning about lighting design, how can we create the urban landscape that its buildings and urban elements draw attention and are the reason for attention restoration and improving people's mental health? In this research by means of experimental work, the relationship between the lighting technical factors (LTF) of the context, and the particular building in different situations are examined. Two points in water and fire park in Tehran were selected due to features such as diversity, night activity, and having and architectural monuments in its nightscape the original data are obtained by questionnaire. The results show that there is a significant relationship between ART and LTF in the urban environment. appropriate use of Color, Intensity of light was the most important factor to increase ART variables and upgrade an environment to a healthy environment.
