Future Cities: Disruptive Paradigms

Abstract
Mankind has always thought to be in control of its environment. However, with the outbreak of the recent Covid-19 virus, it is fairly evident of how unprepared and unaware we are. Nature is not going to conform or abide by rules of one species alone, but is determined to maintain its sense of harmony amongst all of its species. We have only just begun to understand the vitality of our actions. All of mankinds economical prowess and military power has been rendered insignificant, in the face of natures tiny microscopic disruptive innovation. The pandemic unfortunately also is a sign of the Catastrophe that humanity may be forced to endure if we do not transform the way we choose to work, live, play and interact in our cities. An impactful transformation that can only be achieved through mindful Disruptive Innovations. We need to recognize that human beings are the only species on the planet that Builds/Constructs its Habitat primarily with materials, forms and methodologies that are Alien to its natural habitat. The morphology of our Grid and the basic building construct of a rectangle/cube/cuboid is actually alien to the organic forms that exist in Nature. A construct of convenience and affordability. However if we continue to compromise and keep proceeding in the way we have been so far we will continue to leave ourselves vulnerable to repeated future economic collapses. An accumulation of such alien forms leads to a larger scale of Contaminated Hazardous Regions which we call Cities. Our cities do not conform in any way to the natural forms that were intended for our existence. In line with the ideologies of 4th Industrial Revolution, Urbanism too has no choice but evolve. An impossibility if we do not embark on the path of re-discovering the city enroute to creating a resilient advanced model of re-interpretation of the city. The physical manifestation of which is dependent on multiple diverse Disruptive ideologies which defy the existing nomenclature of the city as we know it today. An amalgamation of Disruptive Paradigms is our only hope in discovering our Future City. Over the years Cities have identified themselves with various roles that they identify with on a Global Scale. New York City has considered its role as a Financial Capital, Paris has always been associated with Fashion, Art and Culture, Dubai took on a position of Tourism, Hospitality and Commerce hub, regions of Silicon Valley has been the home base for all Technological Innovation. Similarly the Middle East region has always been identified with the global production and refining of Petroleum and its by products for generations. It is only until recently with the propagation of battery operated vehicles like Tesla and the pandemic has the world ever encountered a sizable decline in the price of Oil. With the 4th industrial revolution beckoning us into a future, we see cities like Dubai and Doha are carving out a niche for themselves by defining and discovering their own disruptive identities, unique to the existing status quo of petrol producing nations of the region. The paper would attempt to create a Pedagogy of diverse of Disruptive Innovation Typologies that could assist cities to attain a self sustaining, self organizing, evolving, harmonious and resilient exemplar prototype for Cities as they launch themselves ahead into the Future.
