Abstract
Smart city mission is a bold initiative by Indian governments to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of people by enabling local area development and harnessing technology. The focus is on sustainable and inclusive development and the idea is to look at compact areas, create a replicable model which will act like a light house to other aspiring cities. Nagpur city having population above 2 million is the third most populated city of Maharashtra. With bigger metros like Mumbai and Pune fast approaching their saturation point, developers, investors, end-users and IT majors alike are now making a dash for Nagpur with a host of residential, commercial and IT-focused projects in varying stages of development now dotting this once tranquil city. Blessed with good infrastructure, excellent connectivity and a strategic location, the Orange City, as it is popularly known, is now poised for an urban transformation of massive proportions that will change its landscape forever. Nagpur city has economic, political, geographical advantage as well as being in 100 cities of smart city mission is expected to have tremendous growth in the upcoming decades. The research paper tries to study the approach of smart city to capacity building of the city. The paper is presented in three parts- the Indian approach to smart city, Nagpur city potential and development followed by the comparative analysis of before and after conditions of the city based on statistics data and GIS analysis.
